There are many misunderstandings in the marketplace when it comes to what an IT infrastructure can or can’t do. IBM Systems Magazine laid those misconceptions out in the May issue in an article titled “Infrastructure Matters: Myth or Truth”. In this blog series, we will discuss the 10 different misconceptions that are included in the article. Today we will share the first two.
The first myth is that “Infrastructure is infrastructure. Any hardware is good enough for cloud.” This is just not the case. A cloud infrastructure needs to be flexible and agile and seamlessly integrated with across compute, storage and networking. Not just any old hardware will do. By improving responsiveness and operational performance, a cloud infrastructure can drive business growth. So, the higher quality infrastructure technologies you have in place, the better your applications can perform, and the greater value your infrastructure will bring to your business.
The second myth is that “Infrastructure in itself does not drive business value.” IBM Systems Magazine disagrees and so do we! Technology of all types, including that used to build a robust and agile infrastructure, has proven to improve business performance. If you don’t choose the right computing infrastructure, you may find performance is hindered and security risks may occur. By leveraging the right infrastructure environment you will maximize the value of your IT investment and drive business value through increased efficiencies.
